Back-to-School Parent Letter - Middlebrook School

Dear Middlebrook Families,
I hope your summer has been filled with sunshine, laughter, a little adventure, and at least a few moments when no one asked, "What's for dinner?" or "Can I have more screen time?" As much as we hate to interrupt summer mode, August has a funny way of reminding us that charged Chromebooks, new backpacks, and alarm clocks are just around the corner.
Here at Middlebrook School - "The Brook," as we like to call it - we're getting everything ready for another fantastic year and can't wait to welcome students back for the 2026–2027 school year. Whether your child is joining us for the first time or returning as a seasoned member of the Middlebrook family, we're excited to partner with you to provide a school year filled with learning, growth, friendships, and plenty of memorable moments.
Below you'll find a few important reminders and key dates to help make the transition from summer vacation to ‘where did I put my new backpack?’ as smooth as possible.
Back-to-School Forms
Please ensure your child's Health Assessment Record is submitted by Monday, August 18. This form is required for all Grade 7 students and students new to Wilton Public Schools. Connecticut law requires all Grade 7 students to have a current physical examination and required immunizations before they may attend school.
Please take a few moments to review and complete the required back-to-school forms in PowerSchool. These forms help ensure that we have accurate contact and emergency information for your family.
Important Information
- MySchoolBucks is the payment method for Chartwells Dining Service as well as all student fees, student planner, activities, Chromebook insurance, and field trips throughout the school year. For significant savings in fees, we recommend you use the ONEPAY plan.
- Attendance & Tardiness: Every school day matters, and arriving on time helps students start the day ready to learn. If your child will be absent, arrive late, or leave early, please notify our attendance office as soon as possible by emailing mbattend@wiltonps.org. Wilton Public Schools follows Connecticut attendance requirements, so keeping us informed helps ensure your child's attendance record is accurate.
Student Drop-Off and Pick-Up Procedures
To help ensure a safe and efficient arrival and dismissal for all students, please follow the procedures below.
Morning Drop-Off
- Students may be dropped off beginning at 8:00 a.m. along the designated sidewalk in front of and to the right of the rear canopy (see diagram below).
- Please pull forward and use the entire length of both sidewalks before stopping. This allows multiple vehicles to unload at the same time and helps students arrive to class on time.
Do not drop students off:
- In the back parking lot, except at the designated sidewalk.
- At the front entrance of the school.
Exceptions
- Students attending a morning club or meeting a teacher for extra help may be dropped off at the front canopy entrance beginning at 7:30 a.m.
- Students with a temporary or permanent physical limitation may be dropped off at the front entrance with a pass issued by the school nurse or main office.
Afternoon Pick-Up
- Students are dismissed at 2:55 p.m. and should be picked up by the back canopy.
- Please pick up your child along the designated sidewalk in front of and to the right of the rear canopy, using the entire length of both sidewalks to keep traffic moving efficiently.
- For the safety of our students and staff:
- Do not drive through the parking lot aisles to pick up students. This creates unsafe conditions for pedestrians and blocks the flow of traffic.
- Do not double park.
- Do not pick up students at the front entrance unless you are signing your child out from the main office before 2:55 p.m.
Thank you for your cooperation in helping us maintain a safe, orderly, and efficient arrival and dismissal process for everyone.
Important Dates
Wednesday, August 19 - Bus routes and student schedules will be available in PowerSchool beginning at 10:00 a.m.
Friday, August 21 – Meet Your Teachers / School Walk-Through
We set up times for the walk-through to minimize traffic as much as we can. Please pay attention to the times for your walk-through based on the first letter of your last name. I know you will appreciate this process to alleviate crowds and parking:
Grades 7 & 8
- Last Name A–L: 12:00–12:25 p.m.
- Last Name M–Z: 12:30–12:55 p.m.
Grade 6
- Last Name A–L: 2:00–2:25 p.m.
- Last Name M–Z: 2:30–2:55 p.m.
This is an opportunity for students to locate their classrooms and briefly meet their teachers before the first day of school.

School Supplies & First Day Reminders
Please review the grade-level supply lists:
Students should bring:
- Any requested school supplies
- A positive attitude and readiness for a great year!
Locker assignments, team schedules, and additional first-week information will be shared with students on the first day of school.
Please label all personal belongings - including water bottles, lunch bags, sweatshirts, jackets, and athletic gear - with your child's name. Every year our Lost & Found (Lost and Forgotten!) quickly fills with unclaimed items, many of which are ultimately donated because they cannot be identified.
To help maintain a clean and healthy learning environment, water is the only beverage permitted during the school day. Please do not send students with coffee, energy drinks, soda, or sports drinks.
Summer Reading
If your child hasn't yet completed the Middlebrook Summer Reading assignment, there is still time! Reading throughout the summer helps students maintain important literacy skills while fostering curiosity and a lifelong love of reading.
In the spring, all K–8 families received information and links to the summer reading program.
Staying Connected
ParentSquare will be used for all school communication, including school announcements and two-way messaging with staff. ParentSquare helps us communicate with all families in the language they understand and gives you the flexibility to receive messages through the app, text, or email. When you log in to ParentSquare, be sure to customize your notification settings to fit your preferences. We recommend choosing the Daily Digest for school announcements while allowing direct messages to be delivered immediately by text.
Throughout the year you can expect:
- A weekly Friday Update from Principal Higgins (typically sent each Friday at 5:00 p.m.)
- Occasional team and classroom updates from teachers
- Important school announcements and reminders
- Event information and celebrations of student learning
- Direct messages from staff
Please be sure your contact information in PowerSchool is current so you don't miss important updates.
